Block access to the Internet on the Internet Explorer

How many times have you told your children to stop using the computer and do their homework? Or to help in the house?

There is a way that you can (at least) block the internet access without de-installing anything. Just follow these steps!

1-      Open Internet Explorer

2-      From the menu go to Tools, then go to Connections

3-      Click on LAN settings, click where it says Use a proxy server

4-      In “Address” just type 0.0.0.0 (see figure below)

5-      Click Ok, then click Ok again

Close the Internet Explorer, re-open it and try to go to any website!

It is a simple way to punish them, but remember that they could easily bypass this by talking to any friend they have with computer knowledge. Just teach them a lesson  J

Now don’t sing victory here!! Let’s make it little more difficult to them to get access, hahaha!!!

Before doing this we need to make some simple changes. Open My Computer (or Computer in Windows 7) click on Tools, Click on Folder Options, then click on View. Uncheck the “Hide extensions for known file types”, Click ok to close it. Close My Computer.

Now the fun part. Do this on your desktop area. Close everything, right click on your desktop and select “new” and select text document. You should have now a document called “New Text Document.txt” on your desktop. Open that document, copy this text into that document:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions]

“NoBrowserOptions”=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]

“GeneralTab”=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]

“SecurityTab”=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]

“PrivacyTab”=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]

“ContentTab”=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]

“ConnectionsTab”=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]

“ProgramsTab”=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]

“AdvancedTab”=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]

“DisallowCpl”=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\DisallowCpl]

“1”=”Internet Options”

Close the document and save the changes. Right click on the document and from the menu select rename, type DisableIE.reg and press enter. You have created the solution to the problem!!

Now all you need to do is double click on the document, click YES and click ok. Wuala!! Now when your kid think he can fix the issue he will get this:

Now you can say… HAHAHAHAHA I WON!!!

When you child earn the right to access the Internet do the following (don’t worry, it is almost the same thing but in reverse order J )

Create another text document on your desktop, open the document and copy the following text on it:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions]

“NoBrowserOptions”=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]

“GeneralTab”=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]

“SecurityTab”=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]

“PrivacyTab”=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]

“ContentTab”=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]

“ConnectionsTab”=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]

“ProgramsTab”=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]

“AdvancedTab”=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\DisallowCpl]

“1”=-

Close the document and save the changes. Right click on the document and from the menu select rename, type EnableIE.reg and press enter. You have created the solution to the problem!!

Now test the file by double clicking on it, select YES and ok.

Open a new Internet Explorer session, go to Tools, click on Internet Options, click on Connections tab, Click on LAN Settings, where it says Use a proxy server, just uncheck that and make sure the one that says Automatically Detect settins is selected. See picture below…

Click Ok, click Ok, close the Internet Explorer and open a new session.

Tadaaaa!! You made it!!  🙂
